En 2019, les vampires ont pris le contrôle de notre planète. Les humains ne sont plus qu’une petite minorité, entretenue uniquement pour nourrir la population dominante. Edward Dalton est un vampire qui travaille dans la recherche. Il refuse de se nourrir de sang humain et œuvre sans relâche à la mise au point d’un substitut qui pourrait à la fois nourrir ses semblables et sauver les derniers spécimens d’hommes. Lorsqu’il rencontre Audrey, une jeune survivante humaine, il va découvrir un secret biologique qui peut tout changer. Désormais, fort d’un savoir que vampires et humains veulent s’approprier à tout prix, Edward va se retrouver au centre d’un affrontement absolu dont l’enjeu décidera de l’avenir des deux espèces…
Première reconnaît un film «débordant de détails malins» mais déplore que la fin «sombre dans un bain de sang» tandis que Télérama se désole des «scènes d’action mal fichues» et de «l’intrigue bâclée».De son côté, Excessif salue «une pure série B proposant un univers très riche» et estime que «les Spierig sont arrivés à quelque chose de très fort : montrer du jamais vu». Un avis partagé par Le Canard Enchaîné qui souligne le côté «drôle et cruel» ainsi que les «excellents acteurs (Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe)» et Le Figaro qui retient «un bon film de genre, rythmé, efficace, inventif, et plutôt bien joué» tandis que Le Monde se félicite que le film «s’encombre heureusement de préoccupations éthiques souvent étrangères au cinéma d’épouvante contemporain». Le Nouvel Observateur aussi apprécie cette «ambiance visuelle sombre et délétère et ses nombreux hommages aux maîtres du genre».

Pas le meilleur film mais il y a un certain renouveau dans le genre et rien que pour çà … çà vaut le coup d’oeil !
L’histoire est originale et inédite et , jusqu’au bout, on se demande ce qui va se passer après.
Film agréablement tourné, sans grande prétention, mais à voir.

Aucun problème du côté de la qualité d’image du blu-ray.
Côté film, un grand bravo pour les efforts de la production pour reconstituer un univers où presque tout le monde serait vampire et tenterait de continuer sa vie de tous les jours. Les différents niveaux de lecture fonctionnent très bien (sauf la très maladroite référence à l’holocauste). Ce qui fonctionne moins bien, c’est le scénario, trop court et qui zappe l’épidémie de départ, dérape entre les aspects fantastique et science-fiction sans les maîtriser, et les personnages, pas assez développés.
Autrement dit Daybreaker aurait pu être Blindness façon vampires, mais c’est raté. C’est à voir si vous aimez les vampires, le fantastique ou la science-fiction.

On se tape pas un film damour.
( Twilight ) c’est sanglant, rythmée et maitrisée. j’adore….. Un film très vivement conseillé aux amateurs du genre. le vampire incarne le pouvoir en place, utilisant les derniers humains.

une image somptueuse, détail et soignée et d’une belle profondeur. respectant à la perfection les nuances de noir, assurant des contrastes d’une qualité incroyable.
Son :
les dialogues sont clairs, le doublage français DD HD 5.1 est agréable.
un relief sonore accentué, mouvements sonores dirigés parfaitement.

Dans un futur proche, en 2018, la race humaine est sur le point de s’éteindre après avoir été transformée en vampires et les derniers humains sont traqués impitoyablement par les suceurs de sang, car la pénurie se fait sentir, menacant la survie de la 2ème espèce.
Le héros, Edward Dalton, chercheur devenu vampire à son insu, est en quête d’une solution pour éviter la catastrophe et la découverte qu’il va faire pourrait renverser la tendance et bouleverser le monde de façon irrémédiable.
« Daybreakers » est une solide déclinaison du mythe, modernisé, assorti de considérations économiques et scientifiques, le tout saupoudré de scènes d’action et parfois gore assez efficaces pour donner un ensemble cohérent et qui se suit avec intérêt. Les couleurs, lisses et froides, créent une ambiance de monde en décomposition et au bord de l’implosion en quête d’un salut durable.
Ethan Hawke, trop rare à l’écran, porte remarquablement le film sur ses épaules, efficacement relayé par des acteurs d’autant plus appréciés que leurs apparitions ne sont plus monnaie courante (épatants Willem Dafoe et Sam Neil).
Voilà donc un excellent film fantastique et un brin SF dont il serait dommage de se priver tant il regorge d’éléments visuels et esthétiques qui ne demandent qu’à être découverts par les amateurs du genre. A bon entendeur….
